COMMUNICATION SOLUTIONS

We provide reliable communication solutions for remote systems

Today, an increasing number of observation and measurement systems require data to be accessible in near real-time or at least on a daily basis. Typical requirements such systems are:

Reliable data transmission and remote access

Low maintenance effort and long-term stability

Cost and energy efficient link budget

BACKUP COMMUNICATION VIA SATELLITE

In many scenarios it is reasonable to share data uplink capabilities between co-located sensor station. Costs for installation and operation of satellite communication facilities can be reduced by interconnecting co-located stations by terrestrial, radio transmitters and rely on only a few uplink nodes only. DiGOS has broad experience in design and implementation of special communication infrastructure depending on the required system reliability.

MESH NETWORK

For bigger sensor network installations a mesh network between the sensor stations can utilize one or two satellite uplinks even better, and provide additional means of redundancy in case of outages.

All sensor stations are typically equipped with radio communication devices and also act as a repeater of the network. Whenever a new sensor station is added, it expands the wireless network consequently. Dynamic routing and an elaborated network layout increase the survivability of the system and avoid single points of failure.

Terrestrial radio links can bridge distances of several kilometres.

If one sensor station in this mesh network provides an uplink by whatever means (e.g. SAT, DSL, 4G/LTE, etc.) all other stations benefit from it. If two or more uplinks are added to the network, load-balancing can distribute the uplink traffic and re-route traffic in case of outages.

All sensor stations are typically equipped with radio communication devices and also act as a repeater of the network. Whenever a new sensor station is added, it expands the wireless network consequently. The survivability of the network depends on a well-designed network layout to avoid single points of failure.

Terrestrial radio links can bridge distances of several kilometres.

As long as one sensor station in this mesh network provides an internet uplink by whatever means (e.g. satellite, DSL, 3G/UMTS, etc.) all sensor stations can directly benefit from it. If two or more uplinks exist at different locations in the network, a load-balancing can distribute the traffic between the links, and in case of outages of one link the network re-routes all traffic to the still operating ones.

GEOTHERMAL POWERPLANT (Reference)

Power plant communication and remote control | North Sulawesi

DiGOS designed and implemented a "communication hub" for a prototype geothermal power plant in North Sulawesi. The hub uses three types of communication for maximum reliability: WiFi (via meshing), 3G/UMTS and BGAN.

In automatic mode the hub collects dozens of sensor data from the power plan and transmits it to servers in Germany for live visualization and analysis. Additionally, it provides VPN access for engineers from Germany to power plant's control subsystem and for optimization of configuration parameters.
